Shana Tucker (cello, vocal) will be joining us as our newest artist-in-residence at the Hilton Head Jazz Camp. With a deep respect for lyrical storytelling, cellist/singer-songwriter Shana Tucker’s melodies weave strong hints of jazz, classical, soulful folk, acoustic pop and a touch of R&B into a distinctive rhythmic tapestry. Having five years of singing/playing for Cirque du Soleil’s unprecedented, gravity-defying production in Las Vegas as a major feather in her creative cap, Shana shifts her full-time focus back to her tenure as an international recording, performing and teaching artist whose career trajectory is on a fast-rising ascent.
From the singularly distinctive Spivey Hall in Atlanta or the Smith Center’s Jazz Cabaret – Las Vegas, to the center of a downtown Detroit groove at Cliff Bell’s or the Blue Whale in Los Angeles, Shana delivers a unique voice through her self-described genre of ChamberSoulâ„¢. As a master teaching artist, Shana is devoted to arts education for young students and lifelong learners alike. She regularly books artist residencies and incorporates inspiring outreach opportunities, workshops and classes wherever she appears.
Joy Krimm (viola) joined the HHJC faculty in 2018 after being inspired by the rootsy-jazz influences found in the score of SSTI’s production of Tuck Everlasting. A gifted Suzuki teacher, Ms. Krimm served as the director of music at Sea Pines Montessori Academy and now directs the lower school music and strings program at Hilton Head Christian Academy combining her background in both classical music and Appalachian-inspired fiddle tunes to open up her students to a world of improvisation. With local experience performing with the Hilton Head Symphony and their outreach Soundwaves series, we are fortunate to have Ms. Krimm as a part of the HHJC faculty.
